European cities dominate annual worldwide quality of living rankings

Zurich retains its 2007 title as the highest ranked city, followed jointly by Vienna (2), Geneva (2), then Vancouver (4) and Auckland (5).

 

In Australia, Sydney, ranked 10th this year, scoring 106.3 points; Melbourne, Perth and Adelaide held their positions at 17th place (scoring 104.8 points), 21st place (104.3 points) and 29th place (103 points) respectively. Brisbane scored 102.4 points to come in at 34th place this year - still above New York, the base city.

 

Canadian cities dominate the rankings in the Americas with the highest entry for the United States being Honolulu (28). New Zealand and Australian cities top the rankings in Asia Pacific while Baghdad (215) retains its position at the bottom of the table.

 

The survey also identifies those cities with the highest personal safety ranking based on internal stability, crime, effectiveness of law enforcement and relationships with other countries. Luxembourg ranks highest for personal safety; Baghdad, the lowest.

Ordinary Time Earnings in 2008
